Ross was an inaugural member of the Watsons Bay & Vaucluse Social History and its Treasurer and a whizz at applying for Woollahra Council cultural grants which enabled this not-for-profit group to conduct 40 oral history interviews onto CDs. These interviews later led to the publication of THE WAY WE WERE. Ross remained part of the Group until his death and was represented at the book launch in 2020 by his wife, Anne.
